Questions
Does BananaSplit send or receive money?
No. It keeps track of who paid what and who owes whom. You pay each other however you like — cash, GCash, bank transfer — then mark the debt as paid so it clears for everyone.
Do my friends need an account?
Yes. Share the group's invite link — they create an account and land straight in the group.
Who can see my expenses?
Everyone in a group sees that group's expenses and balances, including ones added before they joined. Your personal tracker is visible only to you, and your email is never shown to other people.
How does it work out the fewest payments?
It adds up what each person paid and owes into one balance, then pairs whoever owes the most with whoever is owed the most until everyone is even. A group of n people never needs more than n − 1 payments.
What if an expense doesn't split evenly?
Split it equally, by exact amounts, or by percentage. When the centavos don't divide evenly, the leftover is assigned so the shares always add up to exactly the total.
Can I use it like an app on my phone?
Yes. Add it to your home screen from your browser and it opens full-screen like an app. It needs an internet connection to show live balances.
Which currency does it use?
Philippine pesos (₱) for now. Each group uses a single currency.
